About Us

The Bible Society of Zambia is a non-denominational Christian organization committed to making the Holy Scriptures available in languages and formats that people can easily understand and afford. Guided by our vision of a Zambia where all people have access to the Bible in the language and form relevant for meaningful engagement, we exist to translate, publish, and distribute the Holy Bible to communities across the nation.

Position: Bible Translator (Tumbuka Bible Translation Project)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Bible Translator to join our Tumbuka Bible Translation Team. In this role, you will play a vital part in translating Scripture into the Tumbuka language with clarity, accuracy, and cultural relevance. You will work closely with a committed team of translators, reviewers, and consultants to ensure that God’s Word is faithfully communicated and meaningfully understood by Tumbuka-speaking communities.

What We are Looking For

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in the source language (e.g. Biblical Hebrew, Greek, or a major gateway language).
• Excellent command of the target language, including grammar, style, and idiomatic expression.
• Strong knowledge of relevant subject matter—biblical culture, history, theology, and common interpretations.
• Understanding of translation principles, methods, and global standards.

Practical Skills

• Skilled in written communication with an eye for clarity and accuracy.
• Proficiency in computer use and digital tools relevant to translation.
• Problem-solving ability and effective use of translation resources and software.
• Capable of textual analysis, exegesis, and interpreting cobibmplex source material.

Personal Qualities

• Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
• Curious, open to learning, and respectful of linguistic and cultural diversity.
• Demonstrates high standards of Christian ethics, confidentiality, and integrity in translation work.
• Willing to align with the ethos and values of the Bible Society.
