Lecturer Clinical Medicine

1. POSITION SUMMARY

Zera International College of Health Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and licensed professionals for the position of Lecturer in Clinical Medicine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, assessing and supporting students in the following subject areas:

• Public Health;
• Health Systems Management;
• Entrepreneurship;
• Community Health;
• Health Promotion;
• Primary Health Care;
• Health Policy and Planning; and
• Other related Clinical Medicine courses as assigned by the Head of Department.

The lecturer will be expected to promote academic excellence, professional conduct, practical competence, research, innovation and adherence to applicable regulatory and institutional standards.

2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess the following:

1. A ZAQA-verified Degree in Clinical Medicine from a recognised institution.
2. A valid and current Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) practising licence.
3. A minimum of two to four years’ experience in health sciences teaching, clinical training or professional healthcare practice.
4. Evidence of competence in teaching Public Health, Health Systems Management and Entrepreneurship.
5. A Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
6. Strong communication, presentation, classroom management and student assessment skills.
7. Good computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, electronic learning platforms and digital teaching resources.

A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Systems Management, Health Services Management, Health Economics or a closely related field will be an added advantage.

Previous experience teaching in a college, university or other recognised health training institution will also be an added advantage.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lecturer will be responsible for:

Teaching and Learning

1. Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical sessions.
2. Teaching Public Health, Health Systems Management, Entrepreneurship and other assigned Clinical Medicine courses.
3. Developing lesson plans, course outlines, schemes of work, teaching notes and learning materials.
4. Ensuring that teaching content is aligned with the approved curriculum and applicable professional standards.
5. Using appropriate teaching methods to support students with different learning needs.
6. Integrating practical examples, case studies, community health issues and current health-system challenges into classroom teaching.

Student Assessment

1. Preparing assignments, tests, examinations, case studies and other assessment tools.
2. Marking and grading student assessments accurately and within established deadlines.
3. Maintaining proper assessment records and submitting results according to institutional procedures.
4. Participating in examination moderation, invigilation, marking and verification of results.
5. Providing constructive academic feedback to students.
6. Identifying students who require academic support and recommending appropriate interventions.

Clinical and Community Training

1. Supporting students during clinical, community health and public health placements.
2. Conducting clinical or field supervision where assigned.
3. Assessing students’ practical competence, professional behaviour and compliance with health and safety requirements.
4. Working with clinical placement sites, health facilities and community organisations to support effective student training.
5. Ensuring that students maintain appropriate logbooks, clinical records and fieldwork reports.

Academic Administration

1. Maintaining a complete and up-to-date teaching file for every assigned course.
2. Keeping accurate attendance registers, lesson records, assessment records and student progress reports.
3. Participating in departmental meetings, academic board activities, curriculum reviews and quality-assurance processes.
4. Submitting academic reports, course reports and examination documentation within prescribed deadlines.
5. Serving as a class tutor, academic adviser or committee member when appointed.
6. Participating in student orientation, staff development programmes, graduation activities and institutional events.

Research and Professional Development

1. Participating in research, publications, community engagement and institutional innovation activities.
2. Remaining updated on developments in public health, clinical practice, health systems and entrepreneurship.
3. Maintaining valid HPCZ registration and all required professional documentation.
4. Participating in Continuing Professional Development activities.
5. Supporting students in research projects, entrepreneurship initiatives and community-based health programmes.

Professional Conduct

1. Upholding the institution’s Christian ethos, mission, vision and core values.
2. Demonstrating professionalism, integrity, accountability, teamwork and respect for students and colleagues.
3. Maintaining confidentiality regarding student, staff and institutional information.
4. Complying with all institutional policies, academic regulations and lawful instructions issued by management.
