Laboratory Technician

Responsible for all laboratory tests, documentation of results and maintenance of laboratory equipment

• Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for co-workers and stakeholders. 
• Maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory equipment, instruments, and workspaces. 
• Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results. 
• Collect and process samples, specimens, and data for analysis, recording observations and findings accurately. 
• Feed quality assessments daily, flagging under-spec feed immediately 
• Post-mortem dissection of fish in all stages 
• Water quality monitoring, usually on the lake 
• Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses in accordance with established protocols and procedures. 
• Maintain laboratory records and documentation, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements. 
• Assist with the development and validation of laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols. 
• Conduct quality control checks and assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. 
• Comply with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and laboratory policies and procedures. 
• Collaborate with other laboratory staff to support research projects and studies. 
• Provide technical support and assistance to laboratory staff, students, and other stakeholders as needed. 
• Participate in laboratory meetings, trainings, and professional development activities to stay updated on industry trends and best practices. 
• Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of work. 

Education 

• Diploma in Lab Technology, Microbiology, Biochemical Sciences, Aquaculture and Fisheries 
• Grade Twelve (12) Certificate  
• Certificate in Laboratory practice/technology and food safety is a plus 

Experience

• 2-4 years of laboratory analysis of water quality and/or fish health  
• Experience in fish disease diagnosis and management 
• Sufficient hands-on experience in fish husbandry 
• Experience in Quality Assurance
