GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTANT / SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are a well-established and fast-growing building materials company headquartered in Kitwe, operating a retail and wholesale network of multi-shops across the Copperbelt Province, with plans to expand into industrial manufacturing.

We are seeking a highly competent, analytical, and resilient Senior / General Ledger (GL) Accountant. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the company’s financial records, lead the optimization of our day-to-day accounting functions across all branches, and actively collaborate with top-tier international audit firms to reconstruct and streamline historical accounts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. General Ledger & Financial Control

l Maintain the absolute integrity of the General Ledger; perform complex month-end and year-end closing procedures.

l Ensure rigorous Daily Bank Reconciliations and cash flow balancing across all retail outlets

l Implement strict internal controls regarding inventory management.

2. Taxation & Statutory Compliance (ZRA & Others)

l Manage full compliance with ZRA, ensuring accuracy in the tracking of invoices via the Smart Invoice system.

l Prepare and timely submit monthly VAT returns, ensuring proper reconciliation of input and output VAT.

l Manage CIT, WHT, NAPSA, and workers' compensation returns.

3. Historical Records Reconstruction & Audit Coordination

l Act as the primary internal counterpart for contracted international accounting firms to reconstruct, reconcile, and clean up historical accounting records from previous financial years.

l Extract, verify, and validate historical bank statements, supplier statements of accounts, and past tax filings to establish an accurate and clean opening balance sheet.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

l Professional Qualification: Must be a registered member of at Licentiate or Professional level with a valid, current membership number in ZICA

l Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA Professional.

l Experience: Min. of 4 to 6 years of solid experience as a General Ledger Accountant or Senior Accountant,

l Proven Track Record: Direct experience in reconstructing messy financial records and dealing with complex ZRA tax audits or reconciliations is highly preferred.

l Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in mainstream accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, Pastel, or equivalent ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
