About the Project

This research project is an evaluation of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The Human Papilomavirus (HPV) is the primary cause of cervical cancer, with over 80% of cases in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). To prevent HPV, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends HPV vaccination of adolescent girls ages 9 to 14. Zambia introduced HPV vaccination into its national immunization program in 2019 and currently delivers the vaccine to 9-year-old girls on a single-dose schedule. However, the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and feasibility of HPV pulse vaccination have not been empirically evaluated. This study will evaluate HPV pulse vaccination in Zambia in collaboration with the national immunization program and global partners. The national program will lead intervention implementation (vaccine delivery), while the study team will evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, effectiveness, costs, and cost-effectiveness of pulse vaccination and document HPV Pulse Zambia. The aim of this study is to generate robust evidence on the effectiveness, costs, and cost-effectiveness of pulse vaccination, as well as on the factors that contribute to successful implementation of HPV pulse vaccination in Zambia. The Project’s Primary objective is to Evaluate the impact of HPV pulse vaccination on HPV vaccination coverage. Other Project Objectives are(1) Evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of HPV pulse vaccination; (2) estimate incremental delivery costs and cost-effectiveness; (3) estimate the health and economic impact using empirical data combined with epidemiological modelling (HPVsim); and (4) document lessons from implementation.

About the Position

The Field Officer, under the general supervision of the Senior Field Manager and within the limits of Innovations for Poverty Action-Zambia policies, will primarily be responsible for the collection of high-quality data. Below is a list of some of the general duties and responsibilities of the Field Officer, to be carried out as needed according to the determination of the Field Managers and Research Associate.

Duties and Responsibilities

·      Administering Key informative Interviews - Field officers will conduct KIIs at National, Provincial and District levels

·      Conduct site visit to schools and health facilities –  Field Officers will Conduct Site visit surveys

·      Maintain data quality and integrity — check for completeness and consistency in real time, flag anomalies or skipped items, and immediately correct or note any errors before submission.

·      Manage field logistics and equipment — safeguard tablets, chargers, and study materials, ensure devices are charged and functioning each day, and troubleshoot basic technical issues on-site.

·      Participate in daily debriefs and report field challenges — share feedback with the field supervisor or research associate on logistical, technical, or contextual issues that could affect data collection.

·      Adhere to ethics and safeguarding protocols — obtain consent as required and protect respondent confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

•    At least two years of data collection experience working on Field based research or surveys

•    Experience conducting interviews with Senior level stakeholders

•    Excellent verbal communication skills, with fluency in the local languages (Mambwe and Namwanga) spoken in the study areas.

•    Experience using SurveyCTO and other electronic data collection tools.

•    Well organized, detail-oriented, and an excellent listener.

•    Proven ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters.

•    Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.

Preferred

Candidates who are able to speak Mambwe/ Namwanga are strongly preferred.
